Os Salmos Penitenciais, uma compilação de sete salmos unidos pelo tema comum do arrependimento, são introduzidos por uma abertura de duas páginas muito distinta neste livro de horas flamengo: uma miniatura de página inteira do Último Julgamento emparelhada com uma miniatura menor do rei Davi em oração.

Cristo está sentado em um arco-íris duplo cercado por Maria, São João Batista, um cardeal, um papa, dois bispos e um par de anjos tocando trombetas. 

Abaixo, os doze apóstolos olham para cima enquanto oram enquanto os mortos emergem de seus túmulos. 

Os salvos emergem de uma tenda na fronteira à esquerda, enquanto os condenados olham impotentes para fora de uma pequena boca de inferno na fronteira à direita. 

A imagem de Cristo sentado para julgar proporcionou um foco de meditação para a recitação dos salmos, exortando os pecadores ao arrependimento antes da morte.

The Penitential Psalms, a compilation of seven psalms united by the common theme of repentance, are introduced by a most distinctive two-page opening in this Flemish book of hours: a full-page miniature of the Last Judament paired with a smaller miniature of Kina David in prayer.

Christ sits on a double rainbow surrounded by Mary, Saint John the Baptist, a cardinal, a pope, two bishops, and a pair of trumpet blowing angels. 

Below, the twelve apostles look up while praying as the dead rise from their graves. 

The saved emerge from a tent in the border at the left, while the damned peer helplessly out of a tiny mouth of hell in the border at the right. 

The image of Christ seated in judgment provided a meditational focus for the recitation of the psalms, urging sinners to repent before death.

A Segunda Vinda de Jesus Cristo e o Julgamento Final – Élder Paisios: Cristo intervirá nestes anos difíceis?

Sim. Assim como os Santos, a Virgem Maria e Jesus Cristo aparecem muitas vezes ao homem injustiçado, digno da assistência divina, para salvá-lo; especialmente agora que as pessoas pobres se encontram num estado tão terrível. Agora é apenas uma tempestade passageira, uma breve ocupação do Anticristo Satanás.

Então ele será tão fortemente abalado por Cristo que todas as nações ficarão maravilhadas e a serenidade reinará no mundo por muitos anos. Desta vez, Cristo oferecerá uma oportunidade para que Sua criatura seja salva; como ele pode abandonar Sua criação? Ele aparecerá quando o homem estiver num impasse para salvá-lo das mãos do Anticristo. Eles retornarão a Cristo e a paz espiritual envolverá o universo por vários anos.

Há alguns que associam a intervenção de Cristo à Segunda Vinda. Eu não posso dizer isso. A minha razão me diz que não será a Segunda Vinda de Cristo, quando Ele vier como Juiz; será uma intervenção, pois há tantos acontecimentos que ainda não ocorreram. Cristo intervirá, destruirá todo este sistema, derrotará o mal e, eventualmente, trará o bem ao mundo.

As ruas estarão repletas de santuários. Ícones aparecerão nos ônibus. Os homens acreditarão. Eles estarão pedindo fervorosamente que você fale com eles sobre Cristo! Assim será o Evangelho pregado em todo o mundo; então Cristo virá como Juiz para julgar.

O julgamento é uma coisa; A intervenção de Cristo para salvar a Sua criação é outra.

The Second Coming of Jesus Christ and the Final Judgment

Elder Paisios, will Christ intervene in these harsh years?

Yes. Just like the Saints, Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ often appear to a wronged man worthy of divine assistance in order to save him; particularly now that the poor people are in such a dire state. Now it’s just a passing storm, a brief occupation of the Antichrist Satan.

Then he will be so strongly shattered by Christ that all nations will be in awe, and serenity will reign in the world for many years. This time Christ will offer an opportunity for His creature to be saved; how can he abandon His creation? He will appear when man is in a stalemate to save him from the hands of the Antichrist. They will return to Christ and spiritual peace will envelop the universe for several years.

There are some who associate Christ’s intervention with the Second Coming. I can’t say that. My reason tells me that it won’t be Christ’s Second Coming, when He comes as a Judge; it will be an intervention, for there are so many events that haven’t occurred yet. Christ will intervene, shatter this entire system, defeat evil and eventually bring good to the world.

The streets will be replete with shrines. Icons will feature on buses. Men will believe. They will be asking fervently for you to talk to them about Christ! So will the Gospel will be preached across the entire world; then Christ will come as a Judge to pass judgement.

Judgement is one thing; Christ’s intervention to save His creation is another.
