Jesus Pantocrator com barba – final do século IV

primeiras imagens barbudas de Cristo.

Durante o século IV, Jesus começou a ser retratado como um homem de
aparência identificavelmente judaica, com barba cheia e cabelos longos, um
estilo geralmente não usado pelos romanos.

Os símbolos de cada lado são Alfa e Ômega, significando “Eu sou o começo e
o fim”.

During the 4th century Jesus was beginning to be depicted as a man of
identifiably Jewish appearance, with a full beard and long hair, a style not
usually worn by Romans. The symbols on either side are Alpha and Omega
signifying “I am the beginning and the end”.
