Conheça os mosaicos de Ravenna

Os mosaicos da abside da Igreja de Santo Apolinário em Classe mostram,
junto ao titular da igreja, a transfiguração de Cristo, vista
simbolicamente sob a forma de uma grande cruz, guarnecida com pedras
preciosas, dentro de um círculo que tem no centro um medalhão com a efígie
de Jesus. As três ovelhas acima representam as três testemunhas oculares do
acontecimento. Outras ovelhas que estão embaixo montam guarda ao santo,
rodeado por uma paisagem celestial formada por prados, plantas, flores e
pedras reproduzidas minuciosamente.

Mosaic of the Transfiguration – Ravenna

The mosaics in the apse of the Church of Santo Apolinário in Classe show,
next to the church’s holder, the transfiguration of Christ, seen
symbolically in the form of a large cross, decorated with precious stones,
within a circle that has in the center a medallion with the effigy of
Jesus. The three sheep above represent the three eyewitnesses of the event.
Other sheep below stand guard over the saint, surrounded by a heavenly
landscape made up of meadows, plants, flowers and meticulously reproduced
stones.
