Do Livro do Profeta Isaías:

“Levanta-te, acende as luzes, Jerusalém, porque chegou a tua luz, apareceu sobre ti a glória do Senhor.

Eis que está a terra envolvida em trevas, e nuvens escuras cobrem os povos; mas sobre ti apareceu o Senhor e sua glória já se manifesta sobre ti.

0s povos caminham à tua luz e os reis ao clarão de tua aurora.

Levanta os olhos ao redor e vê: todos se reuniram e vieram a ti; teus filhos vêm chegando de longe com tuas filhas, carregadas nos braços.

Ao vê-los, ficarás radiante, com o coração vibrando e batendo forte, pois com eles virão as riquezas de além-mar e mostrarão o poderio de suas nações; será uma inundação de camelos e dromedários de Madiã e Efa a te cobrir: virão todos os de Sabá, trazendo ouro e incenso e proclamando a glória do Senhor.”

Sobre o ícone da Teofania

Foi pelo batismo do Senhor, que o mundo veio a conhecer o mistério da Santíssima Trindade. Eis a grande revelação do batismo.

A Festa do batismo também é chamada de Festa da Epifania porque naquele dia Deus se revelou ao  mundo em três pessoas de sua divindade:  Deus Jesus Cristo foi batizado no Jordão, o Espírito Santo desceu sobre ele como uma pomba e DeusPai testemunhou Jesus Cristo com uma voz do céu.

Em reverência e em posição de veneração no momento da revelação, João Batista, do lado esquerdo do Senhor, se curva a Jesus e venera a Deus Pai e ao Espírito Santo.

Deus é Triuno.

A luz do alto significa a presença e a glória de Deus.

A pomba branca simboliza o Espírito Santo.

O homem no rio significa o rio Jordão.

O machado na frente da árvore é para nos lembrar das palavras de São João para os fariseus e saduceus no Evangelho de São Mateus:

“E até agora o machado está virado para as raízes das árvores. Então, toda árvore que não produzir bons frutos, que seja cortado e jogado no fogo.” (Matheus 3: 10).

“E Cristo se batiza não por necessidade de purificação e sim para nos incentivar a nos batizarmos e renascermos na vida eterna.

Com o seu batismo, Jesus santifica as águas do mundo todo e se torna um modelo para o nosso próprio batizado!”

Prophet Isaias

From the Book of the Prophet Isaias. Arise, turn on the lights, Jerusalem, for your light has come, the glory of the Lord has appeared upon you.

Behold, the land is enveloped in darkness, and dark clouds cover the people; but the Lord appeared upon you and his glory is already manifested upon you.

The peoples walk in your light, and the kings in the brightness of your dawn.

Lift your eyes around and see: everyone has gathered together and come to you; Your sons are arriving from afar with your daughters, carried in their arms.

When you see them, you will be radiant, with your heart vibrating and beating strong, because with them the riches from beyond the sea will come and they will show the power of their nations; a flood of camels and dromedaries from Madia and Ephah will cover you: all those from Sheba will come, bringing gold and incense, and proclaiming the glory of the Lord.

About the Icon of Theophany

It was through the baptism of the Lord that the world came to know the mystery of the Holy Trinity. This is the great revelation of baptism.

In reverence and in a position of veneration at the moment of revelation, John the Baptist, on the left side of the Lord, bows to Jesus and venerates God the Father and the Holy Spirit.

God is Triune.

The light from above signifies the presence and glory of God.

The white dove symbolizes the Holy Spirit.

The man in the river means the Jordan River.

The ax in front of the tree is to remind us of St. John’s words to the Pharisees and Sadducees in St. Matthew’s Gospel:

“And so far the ax is aimed at the roots of the trees. So every tree that does not produce good fruit must be cut down and thrown into the fire.” (Matthew 3:10).

“And Christ is baptized not out of the need for purification but to encourage us to be baptized and be reborn into eternal life.

With his baptism, Jesus sanctifies the waters of the entire world and becomes a model for our own baptism!”
